Carrier Unlock Eligibility FAQ

Clear answers for users preparing a free unlock request review. UnlockMate never promises unlock success and reviews only clean, legally owned device details.

What is a carrier unlock?

A carrier unlock removes a network restriction that limits a device to one mobile carrier. UnlockMate only provides an eligibility review and does not promise that any device will be approved.

What is a clean IMEI?

A clean IMEI generally means the device identifier is not reported lost, stolen, fraud-related, financed in a way that blocks review, or otherwise restricted in a carrier or industry database.

Can blacklisted phones be unlocked?

Blacklisted phones are usually not eligible for standard carrier unlock request review. A blacklist record may indicate loss, theft, fraud, unpaid obligations, or another restriction.

How long does a review take?

Review timing depends on the carrier, the device details, and the completeness of the submitted information. UnlockMate sets expectations after reviewing the submitted details.

Is the service free?

The initial eligibility review is free. If a user later chooses any paid third-party service or recommendation, that would be clearly separated from the free review.

What devices are eligible?

Devices may be eligible when they are legally owned, fully identified, not blacklisted, and aligned with the carrier's unlock request policy. Eligibility is always subject to review.
